Sydney takes manufacturing capital crown from Melbourne

Melbourne’s manufacturing sector features large-scale, export-oriented companies that have been hit hard by the higher dollar and low-cost competitors. However, Sydney’s manufacturers have been more focused on the domestic market and high-tech manufacturing which have been less affected by the high dollar.

In Sydney, manufacturing is now the third largest industry, accounting for 6.2% of the city’s output. The professional services sector is the second-biggest (9.1%) with financial services first (16%).
