OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

It is the policy of WH Williams and Sons Pty Ltd to provide a high standard of occupational health and safety in all workplace activities for employees, customers and visitors.

An effective OHS management system puts people's health and safety as No 1 at WH Williams. Sound OHS practice boosts staff morale and performance as well as delivering real benefits to our business. It increases workplace efficiency, reduces risks of lost productivity and avoids accidents. Our OHS certification gives our employees, customers and suppliers the assurance of WH William's commitment to the protection and well-being of our people.

Workplace safety is the responsibility of every employee regardless of rank, position or title. The company will allow no compromise in regard to safety as is reasonably practical. This will be done through adopting an occupational health and safety risk management approach as part of our business initiatives and operations. A risk management approach will ensure that hazards are identified, and that risks are assessed, controlled, evaluated and monitored.

The company commits to:

  1. Abide by all statutory and regulatory obligations as a minimum and pursue best practice applications beyond these requirements.
  2. Provide the necessary training for managers and employees to safely carry out their jobs, including qualification of First Aiders at every workplace.
  3. Work closely with employees to avoid safety incidents occurring and fully investigate and remedy those that may occur.
  4. Regular review of equipment, vehicles, plant and workplace systems to ensure that they maintain safe work conditions without risk to health.
  5. Setting, monitoring and achievement of OH&S improvement objectives and targets.

Managers and supervisors shall:

  1. Uphold and maintain the company's policies at all times and ensure employees work in a safe manner.
  2. Provide, maintain and advise on the appropriate personal protective equipment for use by employees.
  3. Be accountable to senior management, as applicable and required, for the continual improvement of the programme.
  4. Report any incidents where a corrective action cannot be achieved at their level of authority.
  5. Communicate the necessary information and provide guidance to ensure the safe performance of work.
  6. Co-operate and get involved through the company's consultation process.

All employees are expected to:

  1. Abide by all relevant laws and regulations.
  2. Follow safe operating procedures and work practices.
  3. Abide by the company's policy and ensure a workplace free from the influence of non-prescribed drugs and alcohol.
  4. Assist the efforts of the company and the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

The joint co-operation of all groups will ensure we succeed in looking after each other and provide a safe and healthy work environment for all. WH Williams and Sons Pty Ltd will review this policy on a regular basis to ensure it continues to reflect legislative requirements and organisational needs for continuous improvements.
